How to develop learning to learn competence?
Knowing how to learn is the ability to persist in learning, to organize one’s learning through effective management of time and information, both individually and in groups. This skill involves knowledge of one’s own learning process and needs, identification of available opportunities, and the ability to overcome obstacles to effective learning. It involves the acquisition, processing and assimilation of new knowledge and skills, as well as the search for and use of guidance opportunities. The ability to learn to learn enables learners to use previously learned knowledge and skills and life experiences to apply them in a wide range of contexts, including home, work, education and training. Motivation and confidence are key elements in acquiring this skill. DEAMS offers students the “Self Management” workshop, which aims to foster the enhancement of personal skills by learning tools for organizing and managing one’s course of study.
